Kai Tak runways.
Finance Committee of the Legislative
Council approved expenditure of $360,000 on the maintenance of Kai Tak runways at the beginning of December as a result of urgent representations from the Air Officer Commanding that areas at the end of runway 13 were a definite hazard to Spitfire fighter aircraft. At that time the programme of resurfacing of the runways referred to in my savingram No.972 of 25th November was being held up for lack of equipment. Your telegram No.1883 of 24th December refers.
Grateful for your covering approval of the provision in accordance with paragraph 3(ii) of your despatch No.302 of 25th September 1948.
